Choosing a greenhouse structure for your crops

Describe the crops, growing method and seasons you want to use the greenhouse. The frame and covering need to be discussed with the equipment and growing conditions, not picked from appearance alone.

Describe the crops and growing system

List crops, production stages and the months you expect to operate. Describe whether the space is for propagation, finishing plants, display or another purpose. Ask qualified growing advisers to establish the conditions the plants need, then have the supplier explain how proposed systems address them.

Avoid assuming that one covering suits every crop or season. Request the manufacturer's information for the actual product being proposed and discuss its maintenance and replacement needs.

Coordinate the whole enclosure

Ventilation, shading, heating or cooling may interact with the structure and layout. Ask who designs those systems and what supporting services they require. Place equipment and service access on the concept before bench capacity is treated as final.

Describe attached workrooms or storage areas separately. A conventional enclosed metal support building can have a different role from the growing enclosure, even when both are part of one project.

Compare documented options

For each proposal, record the structure type, covering, operating assumptions and systems included. Mark what still depends on crop advice or site review. This makes differences visible without reducing the decision to a single material label.
