Business and aviation
Warehouses, storage facilities, shops, storefronts, offices, plants and hangars.
How these buildings get planned
A commercial building has to earn its keep, so the shell follows the operation: the unit mix on a storage site, the bay count in a repair shop, the wingspan in a hangar, the equipment a wash or a brewhouse brings with it. Steel suits this work because a clear span leaves the floor open for whatever the business needs next. Each site below covers the questions particular to its trade, from loading access to the rooms a tenant or an inspector will expect.

What to settle before the size.
Deliveries, returns and orders awaiting collection all take up floor space. Put them on the plan with the racks, equipment routes and loading doors.
Open the siteA row of units needs space for customers to stop, unload and turn. Draw those movements before treating every available square foot as rentable storage.
Open the siteShow the route from the entrance to the bay and back out. Include room for customers to wait or hitch up without blocking the next space.
Open the siteDraw the route from the loading point to the stockroom. Check how it crosses customer entrances, parked cars and the parts of the shop that stay open.
Open the siteAlongside desks, list meeting rooms, quiet rooms, storage and shared facilities. A head count alone will not show where the work needs to happen.
Open the siteFollow raw material from unloading to the finished product. Mark the places it waits, changes direction or needs lifting, along with access for machine maintenance.
Open the siteAn empty treatment room on a drawing leaves a lot undecided. Include the equipment locations and staff access so the building and fit-out teams are working from the same information.
Open the siteUse the lift supplier's requirements and the largest vehicle you expect to service. Include the door equipment, lights and other overhead services in the clearance discussion.
Open the siteA tunnel, an in-bay wash and self-service bays need different layouts. Send the equipment drawings and show how cars queue, enter and leave the site.
Open the siteShow the delivery route and the tank's installation position. Leave the supplier and building team enough information to discuss access for servicing or replacement later.
Open the sitePut vehicles, tables or equipment beneath the proposed roof on your sketch. Check the walkways and working routes before settling on column positions.
Open the siteRecord wingspan, tail height and overall length, then draw the route through the door to the parked position. Add the space needed to walk around and service it.
