Sports and recreation
Gyms, fitness studios, indoor courts and turf, batting facilities and golf cart barns.
How these buildings get planned
A sports building is mostly clear space, and the sport sets the numbers: the height a ball needs, the run-off around a court, the length of a hitting lane. Everything else, from lobbies to locker rooms, is arranged around that open floor. Each site below starts from the activity and works outward, so the building is sized for the way it will be used on its busiest day.
