Meet Katrina.
Katrina Bond is the voice and imagination behind DEFÆR. Based in North Carolina, she brings together singing, theremin, live looping and field recordings to make space for curiosity and connection.
Listen to the workFrom voice to a wider sonic world.
A classically trained vocalist, Katrina’s roots include choral performance and an all-female competitive barbershop quartet. At UNC-Chapel Hill, she studied digital media production and became a founding member of UNC Beat Lab’s Hip Hop Ensemble.
That meeting of voice and technology opened a wider world: sample-based live looping, field recording and the expressive possibilities of the theremin.
Make room to listen.
Her sound bath practice draws on her musical background and 500 hours of trauma-informed yoga teacher training. Around the Triangle, she creates spaces for shared listening and a slower pace.
DEFÆR is also an invitation to explore your own artistic voice through technology and equitable collaboration, whether in a lesson, a performance or a project made together.
Spaces that have held the sound.
Past performances include Ackland Art Museum, Anahata Education Center, Current ArtSpace + Studio, Arts Everywhere Day 2023, and Downtown Cary Park.
Create something together.
