Facades and canopies in North Florida: what to know

The facade decides whether a steel retail building reads as a shop or a warehouse. A parapet raised above the roof line hides the panels and rooftop units, and the front wall can be finished in brick, stone veneer, stucco or architectural metal panel. A canopy, either a full-length metal awning or individual ones over each entry, shades the walk and gives tenants a place for signs. Many owners finish the front and the most visible side in masonry and leave the rear in panel.
