What acupuncturist training and licensing mean
Years of graduate study, national board exams and a state license: what stands behind an acupuncturist, and the training Dr. Hartzman brings.
From the Sanctuary Winds journal
Years of graduate study
Acupuncturists train for four to six years after their undergraduate degree. That study includes graduate-level biomedical science alongside the methods of Chinese medicine.
National boards and a state license
To be licensed by the state, a practitioner must pass the National Board exams given by the NCCAOM. Licensed practitioners follow safety guidelines set by national licensure and state requirements. At Sanctuary Winds, needles are ultra-thin, sterile and single-use.
Dr. Hartzman's training
Dr. Maura Hartzman earned her Master's and Doctoral degrees in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture at Daoist Traditions. Her studies emphasized working within integrated settings of Western and Eastern medicine. Before that, she studied Biology and Medical Anthropology at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Ask before your first visit
Whoever you see, it is reasonable to ask about their training and license before you book. You can bring that question, and any others, to your first conversation.
