What to expect at your first acupuncture visit
From the first conversation to the treatment plan: how a first visit at Sanctuary Winds unfolds.
From the Sanctuary Winds journal
Your first conversation
A first visit begins with a conversation of about 30 to 40 minutes. You will talk about your health goals, your lifestyle and what you are noticing, along with your medical history. This is also when the intake forms are completed and your privacy rights and consent are reviewed.
How Chinese medicine assesses
Next comes the Chinese medicine assessment. Your practitioner looks at your tongue and feels your pulse to understand how Qi and blood are moving.
Treatment and rest
Ultra-thin, sterile, single-use needles are placed at the points chosen for you. You then rest for 25 to 30 minutes with the needles in place.
Before you leave
After you rest, the needles are removed and your practitioner talks through a treatment plan with you. Bring any questions you have; there is no need to arrive with a finished plan.
