Sound baths

What happens in a sound bath

You lie down, you listen, and the room does the rest. A plain guide to a first sound bath.

From the DEFÆR journal

You arrive and settle

A sound bath asks very little of you. You find a place on the floor or in a chair, get comfortable, and close your eyes if that feels right. There is nothing to learn first and nothing to get right.

Sound fills the room

Voice, bowls and sustained tones are layered slowly. The sound is not a performance to follow; it is closer to weather. Some of it you will notice, some of it will pass you by.

Your attention wanders, and that is fine

Minds drift. People think about dinner, fall half asleep, or find themselves following one tone for a long time. All of it is part of the hour.

Coming back

The sound thins out and the room goes quiet before anyone speaks. Take your time getting up. Many people like a slow walk or a glass of water afterwards.

What to bring

  • A mat or blanket, and something for under your head
  • Layers: lying still, people cool down
  • Nothing else
