Planning a church building for weekday use

Title formatBody

Put services, classes, meals and smaller meetings on a weekly schedule. Identify which happen together so you can see which rooms must be separate and which could be shared.

## Build a weekly calendar

List regular activities with their expected attendance and room needs. Include worship, small groups, children's programs, meals, meetings and any community use under consideration. Mark activities that happen simultaneously.

Ask each ministry or user group what it brings into the room and what stays there afterward. Chairs, tables, teaching supplies, instruments and serving equipment need a storage plan as well as a place to be used.

## Follow arrival and changeover

Sketch how people move from parking to the rooms they need. Include visitors who do not know the building, families arriving together and people using mobility aids. Have the design team review access requirements and the relationships between spaces.

Then plan a changeover between two activities. Identify who moves furniture, where it goes and how much rearrangement the congregation realistically wants to handle. A flexible room is useful when the operating routine supports that flexibility.

## Prioritize the first phase

Divide the room list into essential opening-day needs and future wishes. Give each priority a reason: an existing program lacks space, two activities conflict, or a particular room must support several functions.

Ask the contractor to distinguish the shell, interior work and owner-provided items in the proposal. If volunteers expect to contribute, describe the intended work for review instead of assuming it is automatically excluded from the contractor's responsibilities.
