Would a drive-through service bay work on your site?

Title formatBody

Draw a vehicle entering, stopping for work and leaving the bay. Check the route outside both doors, including where other customers park or wait.

## Draw the route outside

Mark the property entrance, customer parking, delivery area and intended bay entrances. Add the exit route. Use the vehicles the shop actually expects to handle, including trailers or fleet vehicles if they are part of the business.

Look for places where arriving and departing vehicles meet. Note where a customer stops before a technician takes over, and where someone collects a finished vehicle. A plan that works with an empty lot should also be discussed with several jobs waiting outside.

## Test the operating routine

Describe what happens if a vehicle cannot move under its own power or a repair takes longer than expected. Could it block another job? Where would a tow vehicle stop? How would a delivery reach the parts area during a busy period?

These questions help distinguish a continuous service operation from a general repair shop that sometimes benefits from access at both ends. Neither arrangement is automatically right for every business.

## Compare complete alternatives

Ask the project team to compare the drive-through concept with another layout using the same business assumptions. Include site circulation, door arrangements, parts storage and customer space in both concepts. Comparing only the shell misses much of the practical difference.

Bring photographs of the entrance, neighboring access points and any existing buildings. Have the appropriate professionals review property constraints and vehicle movement before treating a rough sketch as a final plan.
