Making room for changes in an office building

Title formatBody

Name the change you expect: more staff, another tenant or different meeting space. Draw that version alongside today's layout to see which provisions are worth discussing now.

## Draw the likely next arrangement

Keep today's layout as a complete, usable workplace. On a second plan, show the rooms, people or tenancy arrangement you may add. Compare entrances, shared facilities and circulation on both plans. Have the design team review the requirements of each proposed use.

Avoid assuming that a large open room can become any future office arrangement. Services, light, privacy and access still need coordinated design.

## Ask what can be prepared now

Ask the designer how the structure, services and partitions would accommodate the proposed changes. Ask which provisions are practical, which create ongoing obligations and which should wait until the future need is known. Record the assumptions behind each recommendation.

Consider how a renovation would happen while people are working. Identify access for trades, potentially affected areas and whether staged relocation would be possible. The disruption question can be as important as the final layout.

## Separate useful provisions from speculative space

Put current construction, agreed future provisions and optional expansion in different parts of the scope. Compare alternatives against the changes your organization actually anticipates.
