Sizing a hay barn for bales and loader access

Title formatBody

List the bale sizes and the most hay you expect to have on hand. Then draw the loader routes and the space needed to reach each lot. Those aisles are part of the barn size too.

## List the bales you store

Record the bale forms and actual dimensions you handle, along with the expected peak inventory. Distinguish your normal storage level from the busiest point in the season. Explain whether different lots must remain identifiable or accessible separately.

Do not turn a simple area calculation into a stacking prescription. Agree on storage practices with the people responsible for the hay before sizing the barn. The building plans should communicate those practices rather than invent them.

## Draw the handling route

Show where a delivery stops, how the loader approaches and where bales enter storage. Include the machine with its attachment and load. Ask the contractor to review clear openings, working space and the relationship between the inside layout and the outside apron.

Think through retrieving a particular lot without moving everything in front of it. Access lanes consume space, but they may be necessary for the way you manage stock.

## Leave room to reach the stored hay

Draw a labeled layout with storage zones, equipment paths and an area for temporary staging. Record which assumptions still need review. Count the space left for hay after the working routes are marked.
