Which sides of a hay barn should be enclosed?

Title formatBody

Show where rain reaches existing storage and which sides the loader needs to use. These details help you compare open bays and enclosed walls for the location you have in mind.

## Bring observations from the site

Photograph the proposed location and describe where wind-driven rain has affected existing storage. Record runoff and muddy access areas you have seen. These observations help define the problem; the contractor and design team still need to assess the site and proposed building.

Identify which sides need frequent equipment access and which could accommodate more enclosure. If one side faces the delivery yard and another faces an exposed field, explain that distinction on the sketch.

## Roof, walls and openings

Discuss roof shape, drainage, sidewall choices and opening locations as a coordinated proposal. Ask how the building's structural design corresponds to the selected open or enclosed condition. Do not assume walls can later be added or removed without review.

Keep hay-storage practices and building design connected. The operator's plan for managing the stored material should be reviewed with appropriate agricultural advisers where needed; a new roof alone does not establish suitable storage conditions.

## Compare everyday work

For each option, trace a delivery and a retrieval. Note when doors would need to be moved and whether posts or walls interfere with the handling route.
