Warehouse layouts from receiving to dispatch

Title formatBody

Draw a delivery from the loading point to storage, then an order from picking to collection. Include goods waiting to be checked, returns and packing materials, not just the racks.

## Follow an ordinary order

Draw a delivery through receiving, checking, storage, picking and dispatch. Include packaging materials, returned goods and items waiting for a decision. These temporary states occupy real space even when they do not appear in an inventory count.

Describe handling equipment and load dimensions to the design team. Have the equipment and storage-system suppliers confirm the working clearances. Get the working clearances from the rack and equipment suppliers.

## Define the interfaces

Show exterior vehicle movement, loading positions and personnel entrances with the interior plan. Ask the contractor to coordinate door locations with the receiving and dispatch process. The most symmetrical elevation may not produce the simplest flow.

Identify any office, staff, charging or maintenance areas as distinct functions. Describe stored products accurately so the appropriate professionals can review the building and fire-protection implications of the actual operation.

## Compare usable arrangements

Try alternative layouts with the same inventory and throughput assumptions. Record where temporary staging grows during busy periods and which routes must stay available.
