What to include in a hay barn quote request

Include the unloading area and loader routes when you describe the barn. A quote that covers the roof and frame may leave the yard work, floor surface and access improvements to you.

Start with the arrival

Describe delivery vehicles, unloading methods and the place trucks wait. Include gate and approach photographs. Ask the contractor to identify what access or staging work belongs in the project and what is assumed to exist already.

Next, list the handling equipment and bale types. Give peak storage goals and the need to keep lots separate. These details help explain why a particular opening arrangement or clear area matters.

Define the supplied and installed work

Separate site work, foundations, structure, roof, walls and any doors. Ask who supplies and installs each part and who coordinates their drawings. If the floor surface is undecided, label it as an open decision rather than allowing different bidders to assume different finishes.

Discuss drainage and maintenance access around the outside. A proposal that stops at the roof edge may leave important yard work outside its scope.

What to put on the quote checklist

  • Building dimensions and usable storage arrangement.
  • Open sides and enclosed sides clearly labeled.
  • Delivery and equipment access assumptions.
  • Foundation and floor responsibilities.
  • Drawings, local review and erection responsibilities.
  • Optional work separated from the base scope.
