Follow a delivery from the unloading point to storage and then onto the shop floor. Check that this route works while customers are in the building.
Draw a purchase from arrival to exit
Show parking-to-entry movement, browsing, checkout and carrying goods back outside. Describe the products and customer experience you intend. Large items, appointments and quick convenience purchases can create different layouts even within the same floor area.
Ask qualified designers to establish the access and circulation requirements for the actual business. A fixture sketch can communicate intent without proving compliance or a final customer capacity.
Follow merchandise behind the scenes
Map deliveries, checking, stock storage and replenishment. Include returns, packaging and waste handling. If goods must travel through the sales floor, identify when and how that will happen rather than leaving the route as an afterthought.
Place doors and equipment on the same concept as shelving and displays. Ask the building supplier how openings coordinate with framing and the desired storefront treatment.
Compare useful floor area
Separate selling space from stock, staff, services and circulation. A larger shell is not automatically a larger selling area if support functions have not been accounted for.
