Getting ready for a steel building kit delivery

Who will unload the truck, where will the steel be placed, and who will check the shipment? Settle those jobs with the supplier and crew before delivery day.

Walk the delivery route

Give the supplier accurate information about the road, gate, turns and unloading area. Send current photographs where access is constrained. Ask the carrier what vehicle and equipment information must be confirmed before dispatch rather than guessing whether a truck can reach the pad.

Decide where materials will wait and whether that location conflicts with concrete work, equipment access or the erection sequence. The shortest unloading route is not necessarily the best storage arrangement for the crew that builds the structure.

Assign receiving responsibilities

Name the person who receives documents, checks quantities and records visible damage. Ask the supplier how bundles are labeled and what can be inspected before opening them. Have the packing list and reporting instructions available at delivery, not in someone else's inbox.

Confirm unloading equipment and operators with the professionals doing the work. Follow supplier guidance for handling and storing the supplied products; a general internet checklist cannot replace product-specific instructions.

Plan for a change in sequence

Weather, site readiness and crew availability can shift. Ask what happens if delivery must be rescheduled or materials need longer storage. Record who communicates those changes and any terms that apply.
