How to play
Every piece moves like a chess rook. Close an enemy piece between two of yours in a row or column to capture it; a corner or the empty centre throne also closes the trap. The defenders win when their king reaches a corner. The attackers win by trapping the king: between two attackers, or on four sides while he is on or beside the throne. Only the king may stop on the throne or a corner. Attackers move first.
Beside chess
The board game the Norse played before chess reached them: one side has a king to save, the other has numbers, and the two armies are not the same size or shape.
Moves are written as the cells they touch: d4, e2e4, c3e5g7.
