How to play
Each side has sixteen pawns on its first two ranks. A pawn moves one cell straight or diagonally forward into an empty cell, and captures one cell diagonally forward. Reach the far rank with any pawn to win; a side that has lost every pawn loses.
Beside chess
A chess pawn race distilled into a whole game: no pieces but pawns, no promotion, and the breakthrough itself is the win.
Moves are written as the cells they touch: d4, e2e4, c3e5g7.
