Properties

KeyValue
bodyNegative film is forgiving in one direction only. Give it too much light and the highlights get dense but usually still print. Give it too little and the shadows record nothing: clear film, and no darkroom technique can print detail that isn't there. So when in doubt, give more. If the thing you care about is in shade on a sunny day, expose for the shade, not the sun. If your subject is backlit, open up one or two stops from what the scene suggests. The old rule is "expose for the shadows, develop for the highlights". Exposure decides whether the dark parts of the scene hold detail. Development time decides how dense the bright parts get. We'll use the second half in week three.
