Properties

KeyValue
bodyA contact sheet is every frame of a roll printed at the size of the negative, on one sheet of 8×10 paper. It's how you choose what to enlarge, and it's an honest report on your exposure. Under the safelight, lay a sheet of resin-coated multigrade paper shiny side up on the enlarger baseboard. Lay the negative strips on it shiny side up, so the dull emulsion side touches the paper, and press them flat with a sheet of clean glass. Raise the enlarger head until its light covers the glass, set the lens to f/8 and fit a grade 2 filter. Make a test strip first: cover the sheet with card and uncover it a section at a time in five-second steps. Pick the time at which the film's clear edge just reaches the paper's full black, and no longer. That exposure is your standard: it shows each frame as it really is. Develop resin-coated paper for one minute in paper developer, stop for ten seconds, fix for thirty seconds to a minute in rapid fixer, and wash for two minutes in running water.
